BeatSarcoma DANCE MARATHON
Mission
Thank you for becoming interested in our mission. As mentioned, we are a group of Anderson High School seniors who have partnered with BeatSarcoma charity. BeatSarcoma is a young and small charity. It began in 2007 and has since devoted 100% of its proceeds to research (For more information see below). Sarcoma cancer is a general class of uncommon cancers arising in connective tissues. Connective tissues include fat, muscle, blood vessels, deep skin tissues, nerves, bones and cartilage. They are subdivided into two main categories: soft-tissue sarcomas (such as leiomyosarcoma) and non soft-tissue sarcomas (such as the bone cancer, osteosarcoma). There are over 50 subtypes of sarcoma. They are hard to diagnose, hard to detect and hard to treat. Biopsy is the only diagnostic tool and surgery often the only curative treatment. Many sarcomas resist current cancer treatments. About 1% of all adult cancers are sarcomas and between 15-20% of all children's cancers are sarcomas. In fact osteosarcoma cancer, tissue cancer arising in bone tissue, is one of the most common forms of bone cancer in children. There are hundreds of thousands of patients and families struggling with sarcoma worldwide. Sarcoma gets less than 1% of cancer research funds. This is not enough. Sarcoma research is years behind compared to that for other cancers.

We are determined to bring to light the issues in sarcoma cancer funding and research. Your support to our cause can lead to major contributions in understanding sarcoma cancer. Thank you! And let's Beat Sarcoma!

    What is BeatSarcoma?

BeatSarcoma is a volunteer initiative launched in July 2007. Our mission is to raise funds for sarcoma-specific research and to support anyone who is dealing with sarcoma. In order to reach efficiencies of scale and a greater impact, BeatSarcoma is focused on sarcoma-related issues.

Sarcoma recognizes no border and BeatSarcoma works across all of them. We have volunteers in many countries and support patients and programs around the world. BeatSarcoma works closely with researchers at leading institutions around the world to identify high impact projects. We will be funding what we believe are the most promising and far-reaching programs, regardless of where it is hosted.

BeatSarcoma publishes all relevant information ranging from project currently being funded to financial statements through research results and achievements.

Last years BeatSarcoma made two research gifts to Stanford University specifically for sarcoma programs. The first gift amounted to $20,000 and the second gift to $11,000.
